OUR PRESIDENT'S CONFUSION
ON GAY RIGHTS ISSUES
From the Contra Costa Times via Eschaton:
Five years later, Bush is still grappling with issues involving gays and their place in American society, but the stakes are far higher.
And neither side in the escalating culture war over gay rights is quite sure which side he's on.
President Bush has struggled to reconcile his compassionate personal views with his conservative political philosophy, and the result is a middle-ground approach that disappoints activists on both sides, but doesn't offend the vast majority of Americans.
Although Bush opposes gay marriage, he often has split with Christian conservatives who want his help in combating a gay rights movement that they consider a threat to traditional family values.
Gay friends and associates say Bush seemed to give little thought to gay rights before he entered politics and would just as soon avoid the issue now.
So...is he in or out? Just kidding. (Although he was in a fraternity...) Click here.
