PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE EVIL
From The Right Christians via Eschaton:
Teacher sues over limits on history curriculum
A Presque Isle, Maine middle school social studies teacher has sued his school district alleging that his and his students' First Amendment rights are being violated by a district-established curriculum that prevents teaching about non-Christian civilizations and religions. Gary Cole has been reprimanded and threatened with firing because he has taught outside the prescribed subject matter.
Cole's lawyer claims:
"He can't even teach the history of anti-Semitism (or the) history of ancient Greece. How can you explain the evolution of democracy in the Western world without talking about ancient Greece? He can't talk about all the influences of the Indian, Japanese or Chinese cultures.
Note that this story originates in gay old New England. The fundamentalist blight is spreading...

And speaking of gay, this next one is from 365Gay.com also via Eschaton:
School District Refuses To Apologize
For Disciplining Lesbian Moms' Son
(Lafayette, Louisiana) Lafayette Parish's school superintendent Wednesday said there would be no apology over an incident in which a lesbian mother says he son was disciplined for saying he has has a gay mom.
"An apology is not due," Superintendent James Easton said. "The child was not singled out because his parent is gay." Easton said the grade two student was disciplined for behavior problems.
Sharon Huff says her son Marcus McLaurin was reprimanded and forced to repeatedly write “I will never use the word ‘gay’ in school again.”

Creepy, huh? As I've said many times, the public schools are anti-intellectual and anti-democracy. Their main function is indoctrinational in nature. These two stories are simply the most bizarre examples of events that take place every day across the nation. Despite teaching abstract platitudes about "critical thinking" and "freedom," the overwhelming example set by the moment to moment, every day routine of virtually all schools is absolutely clear: get in line; don't question authority; conform or else.
The schools must be disbanded; they cannot be saved.
