SNOW JOB: White House has final say on 9/11 report

From USA Today courtesy of J. Orlin Grabbe:

The White House will review the text of a report examining whether the Sept. 11 attacks could have been prevented and could determine when the report will be released.

Thomas Kean, chairman of the bipartisan commission investigating 9/11, said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press that the Bush administration would check the report "line by line to find out if there's anything in there which could harm American interests in the area of intelligence."

This sort of vetting is standard for documents that could reveal sources and methods of collecting intelligence. But it raises the prospect of White House censorship and the possibility that the report's release could be delayed beyond the presidential election in November.

The rest of the article focuses on the prospects for delaying the report's release and gives background info on the investigation. However, the possibility of the White House taking this opportunity to sanitize or even censor the report is barely noted, which is just about par for the course where the corporate media is concerned. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky to even hear about this Bush administration "line by line" check. After all, it doesn't take an idiot to put two and two together: these are the guys who stole an election and lied their way into Iraq. I'm thinking that there is a high potential here for a White House whitewash.
