HURRICANE BLUES

From Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory:

The Wonkatania

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a'blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a'glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes! The danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!

I never knew it was called "The Wonkatania."

Anyway, as far as I can tell, the "hurricane a'blowing" won't be coming to Baton Rouge, which makes me quite relieved. Quite relieved. Sure, we'll get some wind and rain in all probability, but the most recent forcasts have Hurricane Ivan just brushing by, sparing us, sparing historic New Orleans to a great extent, too (which is now virtually deserted, I've heard).

But hurricanes are weird, and anything could happen: my wife and I discovered earlier tonight that there are simply no more bottles of drinking water to found anywhere in town--I guess it's tap water in old soda bottles for us. Fortunately, we were able to stock up on canned goods and batteries. If it does get hairy here, Real Art may go dark for a while.

My school, LSU, isn't taking any chances, either, and essentially shut down the university for the next couple of days. However, it'll be a working weekend for me: I've got plenty of homework, a monologue and a song, and I stopped by my university job (I'm now company manager, a fancy term for liason to guest artists, for the university's professional theater; I'll tell you about that sometime) and picked up some work that just has to be done before next Monday. I'll be busy.

But if I'm able to stay online, and the weather is intense but not threatening, I'll try get in some hurricane blogging. Why not weather reports? After all, I've already been dabbling with sports.
