I GOT MY PICTURE IN THE
SCHOOL NEWSPAPER

And I didn't even have to do anything illegal. Remember a couple of weeks ago when I wrote about
the really cool actor training in which I'm currently involved? Well, LSU's student newspaper finally took notice of what's probably one of the more interesting things happening on campus right now.

From the LSU Reveille:

SITI helps 'Macbeth' cast find its 'center'

"Theatre is a poetic expression, not a realistic expression of our lives," Leon Ingulsrud, associate artistic director for Swine Palace and director of "Macbeth," said. "The methods we teach are using the body as expression physically, and increasing the overall type of energy portrayed."

Ingulsrud also is one of the founding members of SITI, an ensemble-based theatre company established in 1992 by Anne Bogart and Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki to help revitalize contemporary theatre in America.

Ingulsrud said the company's three major components are the creation and touring of new work, the training and education of young theatre artists and fostering international exchange.

"We want people to know that theatre is not a watered-down version of movies," Ingulsrud said. "It is an art."

In one of the many training sessions, the actors, a combination of SITI members and University students lined the floor and obediently followed the commands from their instructor, Akiko Aizawa. Aizawa is a member of the SITI company who specializes in training actors in the Suzuki method.

And here's the picture:

Hmm. I think I need to work on keeping my knees together for this exercise--it's called the "sitting statue, position one," and boy, let me tell you, it sure does make my butt hurt. But, hey, I'm suffering for my art and all.
