Music to Fight Crime By

My buddy Dave emailed me the other day telling me about a new online game. You see, a couple of years ago, Dave turned me on to a cool superhero role-playing game called Freedom Force. The idea for that game is that you're a 1960s Marvel Comics style crime fighter, taking on petty criminals, supervillians, and Soviet spies. Of course, in such a game one can challenge other human beings online, and Dave always kicked my ass, which didn't matter because it was so much fun. This new game is called City of Heroes, and Dave tells me that, while very much like Freedom Force, it's somehow much cooler, with much more room for interaction with other people in cyberspace.

That's where the "Music to Fight Crime By" angle comes in. Dave, along with a couple of friends, has set up an internet radio station, QPCR, to serve as an alternative to the fight music provided by the game, and it's pretty darned good. The thing I really dig about what they're playing is that it's so totally eclectic. I found this little bit on the station's page:

I've also heard the theme song for Johnny Quest, the theme from the old SWAT TV show, "Kung Fu Fighting," Emerson Lake and Palmer's "Fanfare for the Common Man," and Pink Floyd's "One of these Days." It's not just old stuff either; they play that cool tune from Kill Bill, the first one, when Lucy what's-her-name is entering the dance club with her attendants, a few minutes before it cuts to black and white for all the blood splattering. These are definitely good songs for fighting in spandex. And the promos, put together by Dave, an actor like me, are hilarious.
