BLOWOUT
Texas 45, Oklahoma 12

From the Austin American-Statesman:

This was such a new feeling for the Texas football team, this giddy, postgame jubilation Saturday afternoon at the Cotton Bowl.

Quarterback Vince Young, who helped engineer the 45-12 rout of Oklahoma, could stay still only long enough for the band to play "The Eyes of Texas."

He had thrown for three touchdown passes and 241 yards but still had plenty of energy to sprint to the northwest section of the stadium and slap high-fives with everyone in burnt orange who extended a hand.

With cameras trailing him, Young ran a victory lap before curling to the 50-yard line and giving a special wave to his uncle and the rest of his family.

"I wanted them to know what I was feeling," Young said of the Longhorn fans. "They wanted to touch me, and I wanted to touch them, too."

It was chaotic all over the field as the second-ranked Longhorns celebrated their 12th consecutive win, the fifth this season.

Oh. My. God.

It's been a long five year drought, but the end came as a deluge. It was such a big blowout, in fact, that midway through the third quarter, when the score was 31-6, ABC gave up on it and switched over to the Minnesota versus Michigan game--I assume they only did that for people outside the Big 12 region, but Baton Rouge is in SEC and SWAC territory, so why the hell do they think we give a damn about gophers and weasels? Okay, the game they switched to was tied at 20 all, and therefore more interesting, but it was damned frustrating: I wanted to bask in the wallop of it all. The Longhorn
win against Ohio State was more thrilling, I must admit, but the importance of the Red River Shootout is programmed into a computer chip they annually implant into all incoming UT freshmen. It's way bigger than the rivalry with those pesky militarists from College Station who just can't seem to get it together these days. I think I deserved to see Mack Brown run up the score on the Sooners they way they've been doing to other teams, including the Longhorns, for years. OU had this coming. And I totally love it!
