Rush Limbaugh suggests environmentalists planned oil spill

From USA Today:

"Now, lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, the carbon tax bill, cap and trade that was scheduled to be announced on Earth Day. I remember that. And then it was postponed for a couple of days later after Earth Day, and then of course immigration has now moved in front of it. But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hardcore environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they're sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they're sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I'm just noting the timing here."

More
here.

Well, I guess that's...possible.

Except for the fact that BP has already blamed the disaster on what's known in the industry as a "blowout," an explosion within the pipes and tubes bringing crude oil from the ocean floor to the surface. Rare, they say, but not unknown, and possible enough that oil rigs industry-wide use a device specifically designed to keep it from occurring. And it just so happens that, in this case, the blowout preventer was malfunctioning when the rig exploded.

Still, though, I don't know much more about it than what I just mentioned, so I suppose it's entirely possible that radical eco-terrorists somehow got access to a submarine or
bathyscaphe or something, figured out how to use it, and went a half mile underwater, totally undetected, in order to set off an explosion such that it would appear to be an accident, rather than intentional.

But we're really getting into UFO territory here.

It is far more likely, of course, that the explosion was caused by exactly what BP said caused it. Especially because BP already has a really shitty record when it comes to safety and the environment. Occam's razor, you know. But why the hell am I even entertaining drug addict Rush Limbaugh's absurd conspiracy theory? Because it's fucking stupid, and considering it for even two seconds makes it appear even more stupid. Never mind the fact that it is utterly unlikely that environmentalists would unleash the worst environmental disaster in US history just to score a few political points on pending legislation in Congress: Rush's conspiracy theory makes environmentalists out to be better than James Bond. And he's a fictional character.

Like I said, it's just fucking stupid, which is no surprise coming from such a drug addled bigoted fatso like Limbaugh. Really, this is yet another reminder that the right wing, essentially led by Limbaugh these days, is completely delusional. And that's not hyperbole. It is completely delusional to believe that eco-terrorists set this thing off, just as it is completely delusional to believe that President Obama isn't really a US citizen, or that the recently passed health care legislation contains provisions for "death panels" that will euthanize senior citizens.

How can this nation function when nearly a quarter of its population is experiencing mass hallucination?
