BUSH'S SPEECH TO THE RNC

Just in case you recently ingested poison and need to throw up, Eschaton has posted a transcript for your perusal. Here's a snippet:

My plan begins with providing the security and opportunity of a growing economy. We now compete in a global market that provides new buyers for our goods, but new competition for our workers. To create more jobs in America, America must be the best place in the world to do business. To create jobs, my plan will encourage investment and expansion by restraining federal spending, reducing regulation, and making tax relief permanent. To create jobs, we will make our country less dependent on foreign sources of energy. To create jobs, we will expand trade and level the playing field to sell American goods and services across the globe. And we must protect small business owners and workers from the explosion of frivolous lawsuits that threaten jobs across America.

Uh...the economy is still sluggish, with no upturn in sight. That global market that Bush touts is sucking jobs away from America hand over fist. The "restraining (of) federal spending" is just a joke given the huge deficits W's run up over the last four years. Reduction of regulation has increased pollution, made price-gouging in the energy sector possible, and generally made consumers less safe than they were before. "(L)ess dependent on foreign sources of energy" means increasing the use of dangerous nuclear energy. Expanding American trade means exploiting the hell out of third world nations, which means increasing the threat of terrorism. Ending "frivolous lawsuits" means ending any real sense of consumer protection from predatory corporations.

Like Atrios says, four years in and "all they've got is Bush standing on a mass grave with a bullhorn."

Sheesh!
