The God Who Wasn't There

From the website for the documentary film The God Who Wasn't There:

Bowling for Columbine did it to the gun culture.

Super Size Me did it to fast food.

Now The God Who Wasn't There does it to religion.

Holding modern Christianity up to a bright spotlight, this bold and often hilarious new film asks the questions few dare to ask.

Your guide through the world of Christendom is former fundamentalist Brian Flemming, joined by such luminaries as Jesus Seminar fellow Robert M. Price, professor Richard Dawkins, author Sam Harris and historian Richard Carrier.

See the movie the Los Angeles Times calls "provocative - to put it mildly."

Hold on to your faith. It's in for a bumpy ride.

This film was being advertised heavily on liberal websites about a year ago but I never got around to buying the DVD, which was unfortunate. The clips I got to see of it were really fascinating, a study of the historical Jesus along with an exploration into the paradoxes and contradictions surrounding Jesus-worship today. Thanks to this new wave of illegal video uploading, however, I didn't have to buy the DVD. I watched it last night on Throw away your TV. And lemme tell ya, it's every bit as good as the hype promised. The climactic highlight is when the director interviews the principal of the private fundamentalist Christian school he attended as a boy, asking him questions for which he has no rational answer until he gets up and walks off screen.

Go check it out here. It's damned good stuff.
