Kansas AG gets abortion clinic records

From the AP via the Houston Chronicle:

The state attorney general said Tuesday night that his office has received the records of 90 patients from two abortion clinics and is reviewing them for possible crimes, the culmination of an effort that prompted concerns over patient privacy.

Attorney General Phill Kline, one of the nation's foremost abortion opponents, said the targets of his investigation are rapists, sex offenders with child victims, and doctors involved in illegal abortions. Those could include doctors performing illegal late-term abortions or those failing to report abuse of a child.

Fortunately, because Planned Parenthood fought hard in court, they didn't get all abortion records, which they wanted, and what they got had the names blacked out. But this still pisses me off. The Kansas AG, "one of the nation's foremost abortion opponents," is obviously trying to harass both abortion providers and women who seek abortions, which fits neatly into the anti-abortion movement's overall strategy of death-by-a-thousand-cuts. That is, failing, again and again, to have Roe v Wade reversed, the pro-lifers have for years been trying, by numerous methods, to create a situation such that it's very difficult or impossible to get an abortion, even if the procedure is still technically legal. They've found some success, too: I understand that there is now only one clinic in the state of Mississippi that provides abortions. Other parts of the country are the same. This fishing expedition for patient records in Kansas won't catch any rapists, but it will make women think twice before seeking an abortion. That is, Kline is purposely trying to scare women into carrying their unwanted fetuses to term. Fucking bastard.
