MY OLD SCHOOL WINS STATE B'BALL TITLE
Kingwood completes 5A trophy run
I don't even really like basketball that much, but this is pretty cool. From the Houston Chronicle:
A little bit of magic was all Kingwood needed. Just that one moment. The one that left everyone breathless and tingling with excitement.
That moment came when junior guard Nic Wise took the ball with just 26 seconds left in the game. He stutter-stepped right. Faked left. Spun through the lane and banked in an off-balance shot with his left hand.
The crowd of 13,746 at the Erwin Center erupted, the Mustangs charged down the court and Wise just smiled. He smiled because he knew his team had just won its first state title. With his shot, Kingwood took a 54-52 lead over DeSoto in the Class 5A final Saturday and held on for the victory.
